If you are looking for a way to bring excitement to your classroom, look no further than Canva! Canva is one of my personal favorites when it comes to tech tools. It is an online graphic maker that includes hundreds of FREE features. Whether you are creating a motivational poster or a decorative list of classroom rules and procedures, Canva will prove to be useful. How to Use It
Creating and using Canva is fun and easy. Start by creating your free account at Canva.com. Once you've created your account, you are ready to start designing! Click Create Design and choose a template; from here, there are endless options, many of which are FREE. Then, personalize the template with text and images. You can even upload your own pictures. It's as easy as that! Soon enough you will be a Canva guru (and I promise you will find it useful outside your classroom too!). Canva In the Classroom This tool can be used to create anything and everything. I personally like this tool for transforming the bland and boring to FUN and EXCITING. You can use Canva to make classroom rules into a Classroom Constitution that is beautiful to view. You can grab students' attention and advertise for upcoming school events with awesome posters. You can even get students involved and have them create their own decorations for your classroom. By getting students involved, they're not only having fun, they are closer to meaningfully utilizing the 4 C's and the SAMR model. It harnesses their creative skills with the help of technology and allows students who may not be the most artistic to make beautiful creations. Students can use all four of the 4 C's. They must use critical thinking to concisely display their message in poster form. Further, they have to be meaningful in their word choice, refining communication skills. They can work in groups or teams to add in the collaboration component of the 4 C's. This also fits into the SAMR Model as it incorporates technology into the creation process. For some students, this may act simply as substitution for something they could do by hand, but for others, it drastically changes their experience. This application allows students who struggle with creativity to have confidence in their work. In this case, technology can allow some students to make things they simply could not have done by hand. Canva and Danielson Canva applies to Danielson Component 2 (Classroom Environment). It is especially useful in the specific areas of managing classroom procedures (2c) and creating a culture for learning (2b). As I mentioned above, Canva makes displaying classroom rules and procedures very easy. When you display your guidelines for students, they are more likely to follow them, making behavior management easier. Making rule posters look fun can make a big difference. Visually appealing posters (even ones containing rules) are more inviting than a list of contract style restrictions gloomily hanging at the front of the room. You can also use Canva to create an inviting environment for learning in your classroom. Coach students towards success by making and displaying motivational posters that promote a growth mindset. Creating a fun classroom creates fun learning. Below is one of my most recent creations using Canva.
