What is component 1c?
Component 1c discusses the importance of setting instructional outcomes. Everything done in a classroom should be done for a reason. Even fun activities and games should have some learning purpose. That purpose is known as an objective or learning outcome. It is important because it outlines what the students will be learning, rather than simply what they will be doing. Learning objectives should encompass all learning styles and all students.
Why do you need it?
Stating a learning objective adds validity to what teachers plan and do within the classroom setting. Objectives not only state what students will learn, but also what they will gain out of the experience in terms of disposition.
What are the elements?
Value, Sequence, and Alignment
- Deliver instruction in a way that allows for students to form their own understanding of the content.
- Outcomes pertain to what the students will be learning, rather than what they will be doing.
- Create objectives that reflect all types of learning.
- Construct objectives that are inclusive for all students.
Artifacts of domain 1c
Teachers can show proficiency of domain 1c in their classroom by:
- setting clear objectives and sharing them with students
- involving students in creating goals and objectives for themselves
- focusing on more than one learning style
- incorporating life skills into objectives
- setting high, yet reasonable expectations for students
- designing outcomes that work for the majority of the class
