What is component 1e?
Component 1e pertains to the importance of creating coherent instruction. Designing coherent instruction requires knowledge of content, students, resources, and pedagogy. When planning instruction, teachers must be mindful of regulations for learning objectives on all levels. They must also think about how they will differentiate learning for all students. Most importantly, they must consider how they will make the lesson engaging and meaningful for students.
Why do you need it?
Constructing thoughtful lessons forces educators to take specific student needs into consideration. This allows for students to have meaningful and personal educations.
What are the elements?
Learning Activities
- Design activities to engage students in learning and to increase their knowledge in the content area.
- Choose appropriate materials for student learning.
- Form student groups with the intention of them helping each other learn.
- Sequence lessons and units logically to ensure students learn all necessary prerequisites prior to the lesson.

Teachers can display effective us of domain 1e in their class by:
- incorporating choice into their lessons to suit all students
- providing challenging, yet reasonable materials
- providing materials for students on all academic levels
- reflecting on each lesson and improving it for the next time
