What is component 2c?
Component 2c pertains to the importance of managing procedures within the classroom. Streamlining procedures creates efficiency and maximizes instructional time. To accomplish efficiency, teachers must establish and monitor routines. If procedures are implemented well, students will know them by heart and the class will seem to run itself.
Why is it important?
Well managed procedures eliminate wasting time and promote efficiency. When educators do not have to allocate time to give simple directions, they gain more time for instruction and student involvement. Ultimately, establishing routines and procedures allow teachers to focus their full mind and energy on student learning.
What are the elements?
Management of Instructional Groups
- students are able to efficiently collaborate without direct supervision
- students execute the transition between activities seamlessly
- teachers have all of the required materials
- students know the procedure for quick distribution and collection of materials
- teachers lose little instructional time when finishing their non-instructional daily duties
Artifacts of Domain 2c
Teachers can show efficiency in managing classroom procedures by:
- streamlining morning routines, such as attendance and lunch count
- establish procedure for collecting/distributing materials
- minimize time it takes to transition during activities
- Make collaboration effective by instilling in students the guidelines for group work
