What is component 3d?
Component 3d pertains to the use of assessment in instruction. Assessment is not just meant to come at the end of a unit. Assessment is a vital part of the learning process. Assessment during learning is known as formative assessment and provides valuable information about student understanding.
Why do you need it?
By incorporating assessment into instructions teachers can gauge student understanding and inform themselves about how to proceed. Formative assessment can inform educators if students have a strong grasp on the material or if they should dedicate more time to explaining the content.
What are the elements?
Assessment Criteria
- Teachers clearly explain the guidelines to students.
- Monitor students learning throughout the process with help of formative assessment.
- Providing constructive feedback helps students grow in their learning.
- Help guide students toward taking responsibility for their own learning. For students to successfully do this, teachers must set clear expectations and guidelines.
Artifacts of Domain 3d
Educators can demonstrate Domain 3d in the class by:
- asking questions during the lesson
- having students fill out exit tickets with conclusion questions
- offering individual feedback to straighten out student schema
- teaching students to compare their work against a set of guidelines
- setting clear assessment criteria in a rubric
- circulating throughout the classroom to provide student feedback during the lesson
- assuring students are aware of assessment guidelines
