What is component 4d?
Component 4d pertains to the continual learning of educators. Teacher participation in the professional community consists of sharing ideas and strategies to improve the practice of everyone in the community. When school members work together they develop a strong sense of community with mutual respect and personal growth.
Why do you need it?
When teachers contribute to the professional community they help themselves and others grow, and in turn benefit their students. Working together allows teachers to learn new skills and practice to continue their education.
What are the elements?

- When teachers work together and share ideas, they are able to improve their own instructional skill and student success.
- Teachers participate in the community of learners to improve their own practice and encourage others to improve.
- Teachers are involved in their school past the four falls of their classroom.
- Teachers contribute to improving the professional community within their school or district.
Artifacts of Domain 4d
Educators can demonstrate aptitude of Domain 4d in their class by:
- participating in school-wide initiatives
- planning with colleagues
- participating in professional development courses
- supporting community initiatives
- mentoring new teachers
- building relationships with school faculty
- assume leadership in school projects
