What is component 4a?
Component 4a pertains to teacher reflection upon lessons. After teaching, educators should analyze their planning and execution and determine its effectiveness. Afterwards, they should make revisions to the lesson where fit to increase the effectiveness of the material. Overall, deep reflection leads to better teaching and learning.
Why do you need it?
Reflection leads to teacher learning and in turn better practice. By reflecting and making revisions teachers can find better methods for teaching their students.
What are the elements?
Accuracy
- Experienced teachers reflect on their lesson accurately and provide specific examples to support their choices.
- Teachers must use the realization of their reflection to make adjustments to their lessons for the future.
Artifacts of Domain 4a
Teachers can demonstrate proficiency of Domain 4a in their classroom by:
- taking note of possible improvements for the lesson while teaching
- conversing with colleagues to learn about new practices
- citing specific examples from the lesson to support teaching decisions
- making adjustments to lesson plans
- following changes within lesson plans
