Domain 4 pertains to the professional responsibilities of educators. This domain stresses the importance of being a life -long learner. For educators to continue their own education, they can take part in the professional community and display their professional growth. By continuing professional development, teachers can learn about the most effective was to plan, teach, and communicate. The domain encourages teachers to continue growth to best meet the needs of their students. Domain 4 has six sub-domains that further explain the component. These sub-domains include:
- Reflect on Teaching
- Accurate Records
- Communicating with Families
- Taking Part in the Professional Community
- Professional Growth
- Showing Professionalism
- Utilize the Reflective Teaching Cycle created by McCown, Discol, and Roop.
- Gather data on your students and make changes based on the facts.
- Attend seminars and webinars to continue learning about new and effective tools and practices.
- Develop a strong Professional Learning Network (PLN). You can do this by networking with others in the professional. Try making a Twitter, Instagram. Pinterest, and Facebook to network on a global scale.
- Have students create physical or online portfolios to assist in keeping accurate records or growth and success.
- Create a fast and easy form of communicating with parents and families. Classroom websites or Twitter accounts can be a great use of technology for communication.
- Keep accurate records in a spreadsheet like Excel or Google Sheets to make analysis quick and easy.
